Streptocarpus collection

cape primrose / streptocarpus collection

Product Image
Grown for their showy flowers, which come in a wide range of colours, these tender perennials make superb houseplants. They will flower from mid-spring to mid-autumn and tend to bloom more prolifically when slightly pot-bound. Mainly originating from woodland, rocky slopes and grassland in southern Africa, they require a frost-free position with filtered sun.

We’re proud to support our British growers, and having been raised by one of our trusted UK nurseries, this indoor plant has a low carbon footprint, which makes it perfect for an eco-friendly collection or gift.

How to care for Streptocarpus collection:

Water regularly during the growing season, allowing the compost to get a little dry in between; during this time they should be fed with a high potash fertiliser. Overwinter in a shaded greenhouse, or indoors on a south or west-facing windowsill, watering less often. Repot each spring into a slightly larger, shallow pot filled with fibre-based compost. They can also be used as summer bedding - grow in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil in partial shade.

What's included:

In this collection you will receive one rooted cutting of each of the following varieties:

  • Streptocarpus 'Crystal Ice': This is a very floriferous variety with medium-sized small white flowers. The lower three lobes are covered with fine deep blue veins. The narrow, lance-shaped leaves form a very attractive rosette, making 'Crystal Ice' an exceptionally beautiful plant. Grows to 28cm.

  • Streptocarpus 'Dibley's Patricia': With up to 8 blooms per inflorescence, this compact cultivar has beautifully rich plum-purple flowers above a rosette of broad green leaves. Grows to 21cm.

  • Streptocarpus 'Falling Stars': One of the most free-flowering forms, this cape primrose will usually start producing its dainty, sky-blue flower sprays in late winter, and often put on a non-stop display until November. Grows to 40cm.

  • Streptocarpus 'Gloria': Producing masses of dainty, lavender-pink blooms from February to November, 'Gloria' is an exceptional and easy to grow cultivated variety, which will put on a fabulous display. Grows to 38cm.

  • Streptocarpus 'Ruby': A striking and compact cultivar prized for its rich, ruby-red flowers. The blooms are trumpet-shaped with velvety petals, held above a lush rosette of soft, green foliage. Grows to 40cm.

  • Streptocarpus 'Tina': A relatively compact and free-flowering streptocarpus, that will usually flower non-stop from March to November. The pretty, trumpet-shaped blooms are a gorgeous blend of pinks - from soft blush to rich magenta. Grows to 30cm.
