An unusual form of the ever popular campion, it forms a relatively low mat of grey-green foliage, which in summer, is crowned with slender stems bearing single white flowers. Found colonising coastal regions, this sought after, short-lived perennial looks great in gravel gardens, rockeries, dry stone walls or spilling over the edges of a pot.

  • Garden care: Start off in a cold frame or under glass, sowing seeds into trays of good seed compost. Thin the seedlings out as they grow, potting them up individually and gradually hardening them off before planting out in spring. Seeds sown in autumn will usually go on to flower earlier than those sown in spring. It will self-seed freely in good conditions.

  • Sow: Sept to Oct or March to May

  • Flowering: May to July

  • Approximate quantity: 100 seeds
