Forming a dense, compact cone shaped dome of fan-like sprays of golden foliage, which becomes greener as it matures, this little conifer is at its best when grown in a sunny spot. The foliage usually takes on a richer colouring when the temperatures drop in winter, and being so compact, Chamaecyparis lawsoniana 'Minima Aurea' is ideal for pots, alpine beds or front of border positions.
How to care for Chamaecyparis lawsoniana Minima Aurea:
Plant slow-growing, dwarf Chamaecyparis cultivars in moist, well-drained soil in full sun or light shade, and avoid waterlogged conditions. In late winter, apply a generous mulch of compost or bark around the base, keeping it clear of the crown to prevent rot.
These plants need little to no pruning, but any uneven or wayward shoots that spoil the shape can be trimmed back in autumn to maintain a neat, symmetrical form.
