Globe shaped roots with cream coloured flesh and skin that has a purple flush near their top. These vigorous growing-vegetables have a good resistance to clubroot and are very hardy, so they can be left in the ground and lifted when required throughout the winter. They provide a very good source of provitamin A, as well as vitamins B and C.
How to care for swede Tweed F1:
Water regularly in dry spells to prevent the roots becoming woody or splitting, and apply a light mulch to help hold soil moisture. Swede grows best in firm, fertile ground, so avoid freshly manured soil and instead dig in compost the season before planting.
Leave roots in the ground until needed, as they tolerate cold weather well, or lift them in late autumn and store in boxes of damp sand in a frost-free shed. You can also pick the young green leaves sparingly and cook them like spring greens, but leave enough foliage to keep the root developing strongly.

Sowing instructions:
Swede dislikes transplanting, so sow seeds direct where they are to grow in shallow drills spaced 40-45cm (16-18in) apart. Cover lightly and keep the soil moist until seedlings appear. Once they are large enough to handle, thin to 10-15cm (4-6in) apart to give each plant enough room to form a good root. Protect emerging seedlings from slugs and flea beetles, and keep the seedbed free of weeds to avoid early competition.
