Relatively undemanding and easy to grow, this compact and bushy clematis is perfect for underplanting roses, and it will also look great when woven through larger, purple-leaved shrubs. With dusky pink flowers (up to 12cm or 5in in diameter) appearing from early summer to early autumn, Clematis Giselle elegantly emerges from cloak of dark green foliage.

In smaller gardens, it's ideal for potting up in a large container and placing on the terrace or balcony, where its abundance of flowers can be enjoyed over a long period.

This clematis is suitable for containers when planted in a large (minimum 50 x 50cm or 20 x 20in), well-insulated and non-metallic pot, helping keep roots cool and reducing the risk of heat stress and wilt. Position pots where they will have some shade from the midday sun.

How to care for Clematis Giselle ('Evipo051') (PBR):

To avoid dry conditions, and to ensure good soil contact around the rootball, we advise planting climbers at least 30cm (12in), and preferably 45-60cm (18-24in) away from the base of a wall or fence. An even larger distance should be maintained when planting climbers beside an existing tree or shrub.

Choose a spot with well-drained, fertile soil and ensure the location receives plenty of sunlight—at least 6 hours a day—for optimal flowering.

However, they prefer their roots to be cool and shaded, so plant low-growing plants or add a layer of mulch of well-rotted compost around the base, avoiding the immediate crown.

In early spring cut back the previous year's stems to a pair of strong buds about 15-20cm (6-8in) above ground level and apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser.
