Extend the beauty of clematis through spring, summer, and autumn with this Award-Winning Spring, Summer & Autumn Clematis Collection—a carefully selected trio designed for long-lasting colour and impact. From the abundant pure white blooms of ‘Montana grandiflora’ in late spring, to the rich, velvety reds of ‘Niobe’ in summer, and the elegant wine-red flowers of ‘Madame Julia Correvon’ that last into autumn, this collection ensures a stunning display for months on end.

How to care for Award-winning spring, summer & autumn clematis collection:

To avoid dry conditions, and to ensure good soil contact around the rootball, we advise planting climbers at least 30cm (12in), and preferably 45-60cm (18-24in) away from the base of a wall or fence. An even larger distance should be maintained when planting climbers beside an existing tree or shrub.

Clematis need their roots to be kept cool and moist, so plant the base of these climbers in light shade or provide shading with other plants or a dressing of pebbles.

For Clematis montana var. grandiflora, no routine pruning is necessary. If the spread of the plant needs to be restricted prune immediately after flowering, cutting back overlong shoots to healthy buds. Apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser and a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the base of the plant in early spring.

Clematis 'Niobe' requires the removal of dead and damaged stems before growth begins in early spring, cutting all remaining stems back to where strong buds are visible. Apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser and a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the base of the plant in early spring.

Clematis 'Madame Julia Correvon' is best pruned in early spring. Cut back the previous year's stems to a pair of strong buds about 15-20cm (6-8in) above ground level and apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser and a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the plant, avoiding the immediate crown.

What's included:

The collection contains one each of the plants listed below, each in a 9cm pot.

  • Clematis montana var. grandiflora: Exquisite, pure white, late spring and early summer flowers with yellow centres and dark green leaves. This extremely vigorous clematis is excellent training over a pergola or covering an unsightly wall, fence or garden shed. It's an ideal climber for a north-facing site. Grows to 10m.

  • Clematis 'Niobe': Majestic, deep ruby red summer flowers appearing almost black on opening, with golden yellow centres and mid-green leaves. This compact, large-flowered clematis is perfect for growing in a container in partial shade. Grows to 2.5m

  • Clematis 'Madame Julia Correvon': From mid-summer to late autumn, wine red star-shaped flowers, with yellow anthers, cover the plant. It is a more compact variety which makes it perfect for growing in a container. As with most clematis of the viticella group it also shows good resistance to clematis wilt. Grows to 3m.
