This tree is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: Full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: Fertile, moisture-retentive, well-drained neutral to acid soil
  • Rate of growth: Fast
  • Hardiness: Fully hardy

A deciduous maple, being a natural hybrid that boasts a rapid growth rate and a distinctive open pyramid shape. The leaves are large, deeply dissected, and mid-green with a silvery underside, but come autumn, they transform into vibrant shades of uniform red. Early spring brings forth clusters of tiny red flowers, followed by usually sterile, greenish-winged seeds. ‘Morgan’ is exceptionally colour dynamic, and as the tree ages, its grey bark takes on a slightly wrinkled texture, while the branchlets adopt a brick red hue.

  • Garden care:
Add a top-dressing of a multi-purpose fertiliser around the base of the plant in late spring. No routine pruning is required, just remove any dead, damaged or crossing branches in late autumn or winter when they are fully dormant.
