This push-fit wormery is a simple way to get started with worm composting. You don’t need any tools to set it up and the three stacking trays allow continuous composting with easy retrieval of your finished compost. The lid contains nasty niffs and keeps out pests so you can stand it conveniently close to the back door.
Worm composting, or vermicomposting, is a really efficient way to break down kitchen waste. Once your worm colony is established, it works more quickly than conventional composting.
Throw uncooked fruit and veg waste, egg shells, used teabags, coffee grounds, egg boxes, scrap paper and other biodegradable waste into the first tray until it’s full, then add the second tray and so on. The worms will work their way up through the mesh base of each tray as they fill up and another tray is added.
In ideal conditions you should get lovely crumbly worm cast compost in around 2-3 months, along with a liquid leachate you can drain off and dilute 10:1 and use as a plant feed all around the garden.
The kit includes almost everything you need to get started - trays, a moisture mat and a drain tap to draw off the liquid fertiliser. Composting worms and bedding are sold separately.
