Verbena hastata

verbena

Product Image
With its rigid, upright stems and pointed, toothed leaves, the pink flowering spikes of Verbena hastata emerge from midsummer into autumn. Thriving in a sunny spot with moist soil, its towering wands add late season height and drama to backs of borders, meadows, and massed prairie plantings. Popular with pollinating insects.

How to care for Verbena hastata:

Plant Verbena hastata in full sun and moist, well-drained soil—it's particularly well suited to borders, wildlife gardens, or damp areas that don’t dry out completely. Space plants to allow for good air circulation, and improve heavy soils with compost if needed.

Unlike trailing or bedding verbenas, it doesn’t need regular deadheading, but cutting back spent flower stems after flowering can encourage a second flush and keep the plant tidy. Once established, it’s low maintenance, returns reliably each year, and is a great source of nectar for bees and butterflies.
