Verbascum 'Sugar Plum' (PBR)

mullein

Product Image
This is one of the more compact mulliens, (and this makes it great for pots or front of border positions), but it produces lots of flowerspikes, each of which is packed with larger than average flowers. Their colouring is sublime, being a dusky plum-purple that becomes paler as the flowers mature, so they mix easily with most shades of pink, purples and silver. Their upright habit will also bring a sense of structure to the border when they are planted in drifts.

How to care for Verbascum Sugar Plum (PBR):

Plant in full sun or light shade in well-drained soil, spacing plants to allow good airflow. Water regularly while establishing, then only during prolonged dry spells, as they dislike wet, winter ground conditions.

Deadhead spent flower stems promptly to encourage repeat flowering, and leave the basal rosette intact over winter, tidying back in spring when new growth appears.

Mullein moth caterpillars can be a problem, so pick off the insects in early June as soon as they appear. Remove faded flower spikes if you do not want them to self-seed.
