Trifolium rubens

clover

Product Image
Trifoliate blue-green leaves covered in soft hairs, offer a beautiful contrast for the conical clusters of magenta-red flowers, which open from silvery buds in summer. Attractive to beneficial insects including butterflies and bees, Trifolium rubens is wonderful in naturalised planting styles.

How to care for Trifolium rubens:

Plant in a sunny, well-drained spot with moderately fertile soil. Keep the soil evenly moist while establishing, and once settled it generally needs little watering except in prolonged dry spells.

Remove spent flowers to prolong the display, and cut back hard after flowering to tidy the plant and encourage possible re-growth.

It tolerates a range of soils and rarely needs feeding, and a sunny, open position helps maintain strong, upright growth.
