cherry tomato or Solanum lycopersicum 'Red Cherry'

Product Image
Producing heavy crops of sweet, bite-sized fruits, this cherry tomato is perfect for fresh picking and snacking. This heritage, indeterminate, cordon cultivar grows vigorously and yields abundant trusses of slightly larger, round, red tomatoes throughout the season.

Tomato 'Red Cherry' is suitable for growing in a greenhouse or outdoors in a sunny, sheltered spot. Regular feeding and support for the climbing vines will ensure a continuous supply of delicious fruit, making it a reliable choice for any kitchen garden or large patio pot and cane.

How to care for tomato Red Cherry:

Transplant the seedlings into small pots or cells and grow on until they are about 10cm (4in) high, then after all risk of frost has passed, they can be planted outdoors, 90cm (3ft) apart. Alternatively pot them into a growbag or container and keep in the greenhouse.

This tomato is an indeterminate cultivar and blooms consistently, sets fruit, and ripens throughout the season. It needs strong staking for support and grows best when trained to a single central stem, so pinch out side shoots as they grow. Fruit will be ready to harvest July to October.

Sowing instructions:

Sow from March to May in pots or trays on the surface of barely moist seed compost, and cover with a sprinkling of finely sieved compost. Place in a propagator at 18-20°C (65-68°F) until germination, which usually takes up to 10 days.
