Jenny and Tom, creators of The Laundry Garden in North Wales, found immense reward in cultivating a garden from scratch at The Laundry—a project they cherish as one of their most fulfilling endeavours together. Their planting approach combines formal structure with romantic, flowing borders, a style showcased beautifully in their latest Dahlia collections, available only at Crocus.

How to care for The Laundry Garden jewel dahlia collection:
Dahlia tubers can be planted outside after frost, or started off in pots under glass in late winter to early spring. Plant them horizontally approximately 12cm deep, making sure the ‘eyes’ are uppermost. Allow enough room between each tuber so the plants can grow and spread to their full size without being overcrowded. While in growth, provide a high-nitrogen liquid feed each week in June, then a high-potash fertiliser each week from July to September. Stake with canes or brushwood if it becomes necessary. In mild areas, leave them in situ over winter, but protect the crown with a generous layer of dry mulch. In colder areas, carefully lift and clean the tubers once the first frosts have blackened the foliage and allow them to dry naturally indoors. Then place the dry tubers in a shallow tray, just covered with slightly moist potting compost, sand or vermiculite and store in a frost-free place until planting out again.
What's included:
In each collection you will receive one tuber of each of the following:
Dahlia 'French Cancan': A loose and flouncy dahlia with two-tone orange flowers, 'French Cancan' is a gorgeous bloomer with light tangerine, slightly twisted petals and a deeper, warmer underside of blood-red orange. Grows to 1.2m.
Dahlia 'Spartacus' Senior': One of the first dahlias Jenny from the Laundry Garden grew, and still does today! Large yellow-green buds top tall stems, and open to form giant-sized (up to 20cm across) flowers with broad, reflexed petals. Initially, their colouring is deep maroon, but as they mature, they fade to rich velvety red. Grows to 1.2m.
Dahlia 'Thomas A. Edison' We wanted this decorative dahlia as its flower colour is so easy to mix with a wide range of other shades. The medium-sized blooms are crammed with magenta pink petals, which tend to be a touch paler towards their outer edges. They are also excellent for cutting, which will encourage more to form. Grows to 1m.
