Tagetes patula 'Naughty Marietta'

French marigold

Product Image
Producing an abundance of deep golden-yellow flowers with a central red blotch, Tagetes 'Naughty Marietta' is a compact, showy annual, that can be used as a companion plant in the rose garden and vegetable patch to help repel aphids. Marigold petals are edible and can be scattered over salads, and as they're so quick and easy to grow, they're ideal for children or novice gardeners. Plant them in a sunny, well-drained site and deadhead regularly to promote further flowering.

How to care for Tagetes patula Naughty Marietta:

Pot up and grow on in a well-lit and ventilated frost free environment (such as a greenhouse, coldframe or conservatory). Plant out after all risk of frost has passed. Pinch out the growing tips to encourage bushier growth, and feed at regular intervals with a high-potash fertiliser throughout summer.

Sowing instructions:

Sow Tagetes indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost in a light, well-draining seed compost. Press seeds lightly into the soil but don’t cover them too deeply, as they need light to germinate.

Keep the compost moist and warm around 18-20°C (64-68°F); seedlings usually appear in 5-10 days. Once they have a few true leaves, transplant them into individual pots and harden off outdoors before planting out after the risk of frost has passed.
