Streptocarpus 'Polka-Dot Pink'

cape primrose

Product Image
This compact, tender perennial pot plant throws up a long run of eye-catching blooms that brighten any room from early spring right through to late autumn. Each flower opens from a neat clump of strappy, softly hairy mid-green leaves, forming a tidy mound that’s ideal for a sunny windowsill, conservatory or greenhouse bench.

The tubular blooms reach around 5cm (2in) across, with flared lobes painted in lively pinkish-red over a crisp white base, finely speckled and edged for a bold, polka-dot effect. Flowers appear in generous clusters and keep coming for months, giving you reliable colour from March to November with very little fuss providing they aren't overwatered and in too sunny a spot.

A naturally occurring mutation from the ever-popular Polka-Dot Purple, Streptocarpus ‘Polka-Dot Pink’ pairs beautifully with its sibling or stands confidently on its own. Give it bright light out of harsh midday sun, keep the compost lightly moist, and it will reward you with a steady display of vibrant, frilled flowers.

We’re proud to support our British growers, and having been raised by one of our trusted UK nurseries, this indoor plant has a low carbon footprint, which makes it perfect for an eco-friendly collection or gift.

How to care for Streptocarpus Polka-Dot Pink:

Pot on rooted cuttings into general purpose compost and grow on indoors in an indirectly lit spot.

Water regularly during the growing season, allowing the compost to get a little dry in between; during this time they should be fed with a high potash fertiliser. Avoid letting water sit on the leaves.

Repot each spring into a slightly larger, shallow pot filled with fibre-based compost. They can also be used as summer bedding - grow in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil in partial shade. Overwinter in a shaded greenhouse, or indoors on a south or west-facing windowsill, watering less often.
