spinach 'Giant Winter'

spinach or Spinacia oleracea 'Giant Winter'

Product Image
A really hardy spinach which will shrug off frost, gales and even snow to keep you picking right through the coldest months of the year. The large, elegantly pointed leaves of spinach 'Giant Winter' have a strong, rich flavour that's perfect in winter casseroles or lightly steamed as a delicious side vegetable.

How to care for spinach Giant Winter:

Keep netted against pigeons while young. Pick as a cut-and-come-again crop, taking outside leaves but leaving the crown intact, and plants will continue producing new leaves over a very long period.

Sowing instructions:

Sow in shallow drills in a sheltered spot in light shade, and thin seedlings gradually until plants are 25cm (10in) apart: the thinnings can be replanted to make additional rows. Keep well watered, especially in dry spells, protect from slugs and hoe between plants to keep the weeds down. Protecting with a cloche through the very worst weather prevents leaves getting damaged by winter gales.
