A showy addition to the front of a sunny border, rockery or patio, this relatively new shrubby cinquefoil will keep on producing its larger than average flowers all summer. Initially rich orange in colour, the blooms do start to take on a golden yellow glow as they mature, so you will often have a mixture of both on the the plant at any one time. Potentilla fruticosa Bella Sol is an undemanding and easy to grow plant, that will become more tolerant of drought as it becomes established.

How to care for Potentilla fruticosa Bella Sol ('Hachdon') (PBR):

Plant woody shrub cinquefoil in full sun and well-drained soil, as they flower most freely in bright conditions and dislike sitting in wet ground. Water regularly during their first year to help them establish, then only during extended dry spells once mature. In spring, apply a 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted compost or manure to keep the soil in good condition and conserve moisture.

After flowering, trim the plant lightly, removing weak or spindly shoots and cutting a few of the oldest stems back to the base to keep a neat shape and encourage fresh growth.
