Small in size but big on impact, this compact ornamental grass brings colour, movement and structure to even the smallest of spaces. Miscanthus sinensis ‘Piccolo Rubino’ forms dense, upright clumps of fine green leaves that gradually shift to warm orange-red tones in autumn, lighting up borders and containers as the season cools.
From late summer, pinkish-red flower plumes rise above the foliage, adding height and contrast before fading to soft silvery-white seed heads that hold their shape well into winter. The tidy, fountain-like habit makes it a great choice for smaller gardens, gravel plantings, or as a rhythmic repeat through sunny borders.
It performs best in full sun where colour is strongest, growing happily in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Easy to care for and reliable year after year, simply cut it back in late winter to make way for fresh new growth.
