Lilium 'Manitoba Morning'

martagon lily

Product Image
Bring reliable summer colour to borders with elegant, lightly scented flowers held on tall, upright stems. The blooms show reflexed petals in soft coral flushed with lighter pink, marked with dark red spots and bright orange anthers for strong contrast.

Whorled foliage gives the plant a neat, tiered look that fits well among perennials or at the edge of woodland planting. Lilium ‘Manitoba Morning’ performs best in well-drained soil, with its flowers in sun and its roots kept cool and shaded.

This martagon type is long-lived, settles well once undisturbed, and attracts butterflies with its open, nodding blooms. It’s an excellent choice for adding height, texture and dependable colour to lightly shaded borders.

How to care for Lilium Manitoba Morning:

Lilies can be planted at any time from early autumn, to mid-spring. Planting in autumn often helps them settle in and become better established before they start to put on their new spring growth, but spring planting is a better option if your soil is heavy and wet during winter.

Choose a sunny spot, preferably where the plant receives a little light shade at its base, and plant each bulb 15-20cm (6-8in) deep in a well-drained soil, enriched with well-rotted organic matter or leaf mould. Space them at approximately 30cm (12in) intervals and provide support before the flowers appear.

Deadhead the faded blooms promptly and cut the dead stems back to ground level at the end of autumn.
