Infuse your summer borders with a gentle, shimmering hue using these stunning dahlias. These beauties are enduring companions in vases, ensuring prolonged blooms well into the autumn season when regularly cut.
How to care for Last days of summer dahlia collection:
Dahlia tubers can be planted outside after frost, or started off in pots under glass in late winter to early spring. Plant them horizontally approximately 12cm deep, making sure the ‘eyes’ are uppermost. Allow enough room between each tuber so the plants can grow and spread to their full size without being overcrowded. While in growth, provide a high-nitrogen liquid feed each week in June, then a high-potash fertiliser each week from July to September. Stake with canes or brushwood if it becomes necessary. In mild areas, leave them in situ over winter, but protect the crown with a generous layer of dry mulch. In colder areas, carefully lift and clean the tubers once the first frosts have blackened the foliage and allow them to dry naturally indoors. Then place the dry tubers in a shallow tray, just covered with slightly moist potting compost, sand or vermiculite and store in a frost-free place until planting out again.
                                    What's included:
In each collection you will receive one tuber of each of the following:
Dahlia 'Jowey Winnie': As the flowerheads of this fabulous dahlia are a rich mix of pink, purple and apricot, it makes them incredibly easy to place in the border. Also, their rounded heads, which can grow to around 10cm across, are invaluable for adding structural interest - in both the garden and the vase. Grows to 1m.
Dahlia 'Mondriaan': Delicate pastel flowers, evoking memories of tutti fruity sweets! From midsummer through autumn's first frost, the compact plants bloom profusely, unfurling shades of lemon, apricot and peach, sometimes blushed with pink. The petite pom-poms make charming floral arrangements, whether gathered by the bunch or spotlighted in a bridal bouquet. Grows to 1m.
Dahlia 'Oleda': A vibrant and robust perennial that produces an abundance of bicoloured flowers from midsummer until the first frosts. This 'decorative' dahlia showcases large, dinner-plate sized blooms with purple toned petals that brighten to yellow towards the centre. The colourful blooms gracefully extend the beauty of borders and beds well into the late summer and autumn after many other perennials have faded. 'Oleda' is also a delightful choice for standalone interior floral displays. Grows to 90cm.
Dahlia 'Paso Doble Dancer': A delightful, decorative Dahlia, known for its vibrant display, unveiling dinner plate-sized blooms in a mesmerising blend of soft salmon-pink with a radiant peach-yellow centre. Adorning the garden with flowers spanning 15-20cm (6-8in) wide, ‘Paso Doble Dancer’ promises a show-stopping performance, gracing gardens with its captivating colour palette and impressive bloom size. Grows to 1.2m.
