This is a great addition to any herbaceous border or vegetable bed. Each bulb is approximately 5-6 inches across and a single clove can be as large as a whole bulb of ordinary garlic. It's closely related to the leek, but elephant garlic has a far milder flavour - and is much more sweet than ordinary garlic.
How to care for garlic Elephant:
Plant the cloves (pointy side up) 2cm deep from September to December (if frost permits) at 30cm intervals. Subsequent rows should be spaced at 60cm intervals. Gently lift when the leaves start to yellow, and leave them on the surface of the soil (or in a bright shed) to ripen before storing them in a light, airy position, which is dry and frost free.
Please note. Elephant garlic is supplied as 2 cloves ready to plant, rather than a head of cloves, so will produce 2 plants.
