Famed for its rich, heady fragrance, this compact evergreen shrub produces snowy white, waxy flowers from early summer into autumn.

The single, star-shaped blooms contrast beautifully against deep green, glossy foliage, creating an eye-catching display. Highly fragrant, its scent is often used in perfumes, making it a perfect choice for patios or seating areas where the aroma can be fully appreciated.

Gardenia jasminoides 'Kleim's Hardy' is one of the hardier cultivars, withstanding milder UK winters in sheltered spots but requiring protection in colder areas.

Ideal for containers or borders, it thrives in acidic, well-drained soil and benefits from regular feeding to encourage abundant flowering.

How to care for Gardenia jasminoides Kleim's Hardy:

Grow borderline hardy gardenias outdoors in a warm, sheltered position, either in borders or containers in moist but well-drained, acid or neutral soil in partial or light dappled shade.

Water regularly, ideally with rainwater, until fully established. Tap water contains lime and over time, reduces the soil acidity. If watering with tap water, we advise a regular application of sequestered iron or sulphur chips to the pot compost or soil to boost the soil acidity.

Alternatively, grow under glass in lime-free compost in bright, filtered light with high humidity.
