Enkianthus campanulatus Prettycoat ('Jww10') (PBR)

enkianthus

Product Image
A compact form of the popular species, ‘Prettycoat’ has dark green leaves that contrast beautifully against the springtime clusters of pretty pinkish-white bell-shaped flowers that hang in pendant racemes from red stems. One for acidic conditions where it will thrive, spectacular autumn colours of bright reds and oranges will close the season in a fiery display.

How to care for Enkianthus campanulatus Prettycoat ('Jww10') (PBR):

Plant Enkianthus in a sunny or lightly shaded spot with well-drained, acidic soil, ideally in a hole enriched with ericaceous compost. Apply a 5-7?cm (2-3?in) mulch of ericaceous compost or well-rotted leaf mould around the base in spring to conserve moisture and suppress weeds.

Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first couple of years while it establishes. Little pruning is needed—just remove dead, diseased, or crossing branches after flowering, and avoid cutting into old wood as it may not resprout.

Fertilise sparingly with an ericaceous plant feed in spring if growth needs bolstering. Protect from harsh winter winds and ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal problems.
