In spring, the new fronds Doodia media emerge with a bronze flush, but as they age they turn dark green and develop a leathery texture. The colour of the stem is attractive too, being a bright red initially, but losing its intensity over time.

How to care for Doodia media:
Doodia thrives in partial to full shade and moist, humus-rich soil. Incorporate plenty of well-rotted leaf mould or garden compost when planting water well while establishing.
Cut back decayed fronds in late winter/early spring to allow new growth to emerge, and mulch annually to conserve moisture.
