Thriving in those hot, sun-baked spots where little else will grow, this creeping groundcover will soon form a dense mat of silver foliage, which from late spring to midsummer will be studded with a profusion of white flowers. Cerastium tomentosum is a wonderful addition to alpine beds, dry slopes or gravel gardens, but it is also useful for filling gaps at the front of sun-drenched borders.
How to care for Cerastium tomentosum:
Plant in full sun and very well-drained soil, ideally in poor, sandy or stony conditions where it will thrive without becoming too vigorous. Avoid overly rich soils or damp, heavy sites, especially in winter, as the plant dislikes excessive moisture and can rot in poorly drained conditions.
Trim back after flowering to maintain a neat shape and encourage fresh growth. Cut back or divide overly large or spreading clumps in spring to keep them compact and to rejuvenate older plants. great for well-drained sites including gravel gardens, walls, rockeries, or the front of sunny borders.
