Premium Niwaki Japanese folding saw with a chunky rubber handle and an impact-hardened steel blade that easily cuts branches up to 7cm thick.

The perfect pruning saw for regular use in the garden. Great for thinning shrubs, pruning fruit trees and other meatier jobs that secateurs or loppers can’t handle.

As with all Japanese saws, it has a narrow blade for a cleaner, more efficient cut. It also cuts on the pull stroke rather than the push, meaning the blade comes under less pressure.

It’ll whizz through green wood with ease, but keep in mind the blade is more brittle than a Western saw so technique is all-important. Go easy and smooth, drawing it toward you to cut and gliding back out. Don’t twist or snag the blade or let the weight of a cut branch pinch or catch the blade.

Never go too big with the branches you tackle - as a rule of thumb, treat the maximum sensible cutting diameter as one-third of the length of the blade. If branches are bending rather than rigid, it’s better to use secateurs or loppers.

Look after the blade by only using it on wood - never wire, stone, plastic or other hard materials - and cutting on the diagonal. Use the base of the blade rather than the tip for heavier cuts and avoid applying uneven pressure.

Clean the blades after every use (water and washing up liquid is fine), dry well and apply a coat of camellia oil and store in a dry place. Sharpen as needed.
