Stand it on a flat level surface and collect rainwater by removing the lid and grate or attaching a connector pipe to the back of the water butt. You can access the water by dipping in a watering can or turning on the tap. The tap relies on pressure to work, so there must be a few inches of water in the water butt (above tap level) to use it.
If connecting up a downpipe rain trap, the size of the pre-drilled hole at the back of the water butt may need to be adjusted. Please carefully check the measurements of the pipe used. The diameter of the existing hole is 2cm.
