Bird pots like this one are a long-standing favourite among bird lovers. They have been eagerly hung up to welcome in small birds since at least the 16th century, but designs like this one date from about the 17th century.
Handmade from natural clay it makes a cosy nesting and roosting space that stays cool in summer and snug in winter. The 32mm entrance hole will encourage in small species like blue tits and sparrows but keep out squirrels and other predators.
Hang it up by the handle in a quiet sheltered spot and push a twig in the small hole to act as a perch. The flat open back will sit flush against a wall and allows easy cleaning when birds have flown.
Please note: the twig perch shown is not included, but any sturdy twig can be used.
