Sesleria argentea

silver moor-grass

Product Image
Neat, well-behaved clumps of softly arching foliage make this an easy grass to work into borders and gravel gardens. The slender leaves have a fresh green to pale yellow colouring, with the foliage taking on a brighter lime-green tone as autumn approaches.

Upright stems carry small, creamy-white flower spikes in spring, adding a little height without overwhelming nearby plants. Sesleria argentea is happy in full sun or light shade and suits a range of well-drained soils, making it a useful choice for edging paths, grouping through a border or adding year-round structure to a planting scheme.

How to care for Sesleria argentea:

Plant in well-drained soil, ideally in full sun or partial shade, where it will thrive in a range of soil types, including poor or dry soils.

Water regularly during the first growing season to help plants establish, but once mature, it becomes more drought-tolerant.

Remove spent flower stems after blooming to keep the plant tidy and encourage fresh growth. In early spring, cut back old foliage to refresh the clump and maintain its neat, upright habit.

Avoid planting in heavy, poorly drained soil, as excessively wet, winter ground conditions can lead to root rot.
