This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: preferably acid, fertile, moist but well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average to fast-growing
  • Flowering period: June
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Dainty, pink-tinted white flowers in June and small, three-lobed, mid-green leaves, golden-yellow when young. This compact, thicket-forming, deciduous shrub is ideal for illuminating a shrub border in sun or partial shade. Best grown in moist but well-drained acid soil, it tolerates most conditions except for shallow chalk.

  • Garden care: Once established, cut back up to one in four of the oldest stems to their base, after flowering. Then, apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the base of the plant.
