This perennial is semi-evergreen so it can lose some of its leaves in winter. In colder regions or more exposed gardens, it may lose them all, but then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  In late spring, the spreading mound of slender evergreen foliage is virtually smothered by an abundance of star-like, reddish pink flowers. It's ideal for spilling over the edges of a pot, but it can also be used to soften the edges of a path - or add colour to a rockery or sunny slope.
  
  Garden care: Give it a trim after the flowers have faded and lift and divide clumps in autumn.
