Helichrysum bracteatum 'Snow White'

everlasting strawflower (syn. Xerochrysum bracteatum Snow White)

Product Image
Brighten sunny beds and cutting gardens with strong, upright stems topped with frilly white blooms and a sunny centre that keep their shape and colour beautifully. A half-hardy annual, Helichrysum bracteatum ‘Snow White’ forms a tidy, branching plant, carrying papery, daisy-like flowers with a straw-like texture that gives excellent longevity.

Perfect for fresh arrangements or drying, the stems can be cut just before the flowers fully open and hung upside down in a cool, dark, airy space to preserve their crisp structure for months. It performs best in full sun and well-drained soil, coping well with heat and dry spells once established, making it a reliable choice for low-maintenance summer displays.

How to care for Helichrysum bracteatum Snow White:

Support the plants with twiggy branches in exposed gardens. To obtain the best dried flowers, cut just before fully open, hang upside down in small bunches in a dry, dark, well ventilated area where they will open out and dry naturally preserving their colour.

Sowing instructions:

Sow from March in trays or pots under glass at 55°F (13°C), but best sown in situ, in a well-prepared tilth, 1cm deep from May. Thin them out when they are large enough to handle allowing 20cm (8in) between each plant. An autumn sowing will produce slightly earlier flowers the following year.
