This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: Full sun or partial shade
  • Soil:Moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: Fast
  • Flowering period: June to October
  • Hardiness: Frost hardy (may need winter protection)

Royal violet-purple semi-double blooms are carried on the compact stems of this hardy, slightly trailing variety. 'Army Nurse' makes a colourful display in containers and borders that will continue all summer long.

  • Garden care:
Although classed as a bush variety, 'Army Nurse', can have a slightly trailing habit. To encourage more upright growth, pinch out the growing tips of young plants after the sixth or seventh pair of leaves. During the growing season water regularly, applying a balanced liquid fertiliser each month. In spring, prune the previous year's flowering stems to within one or two buds of the older woody framework and remove thin, weak or dead growth.
    • Humans/Pets: Fruit are ornamental - not to be eaten
