The evergreen tree heather 'Polar Express' is a vigorous, upright, medium-sized shrub. In bloom, discrete white flowers are produced from late spring to early summer. This bushy shrub with dark green leaves works superbly well as a feature plant, providing height and texture for other acid-loving plants, either in pots or borders.
How to care for Erica australis f. albiflora Polar Express:
Plant Erica in a sunny or partially shaded spot with well-drained soil, using a blend of ericaceous compost and well-rotted compost, and optionally add ericoid mycorrhizal fungi to the planting hole. Mulch lightly with ericaceous material to keep roots cool and moist.
During the growing season, water regularly and apply a half-strength balanced liquid fertiliser every four weeks. After flowering, trim the tips with shears or secateurs to remove dead flowers and encourage bushy growth, but avoid cutting into old wood as it may not resprout. Protect young plants from frost and only water in winter if the soil is dry.
