This perennial dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  Flowering continuously and profusely, the scarlet petals are tipped with yellow around a brick-red eye and bright golden stamens, smothering the fine, disease-resistant, thread-like foliage. Great for a real swarm of colour at the front of borders, or lining a path, ‘Ladybird’ just keeps on giving - as a compact and colourful perennial, or an excellent cut flower. • Garden care: Protect from frost with horticultural fleece and a thick organic mulch to protect the roots. Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering and water well during hot, dry spells. Cut the faded flower-stems back down to ground level in autumn and compost.
