A wonderful, evergreen shrub with cup-shaped, white flowers with pale yellow centres from late spring to summer. This plant is an asset to the garden for its shiny, silvery foliage, as well as its flowers. It is happiest in a hot, sunny border where it contrasts well with blues and purples, and it also looks stunning cascading over a wall. In areas with cold, wet winters it is best grown in a container.
How to care for Convolvulus cneorum:
Plant in a sunny, sheltered spot with free-draining soil, as it dislikes winter wet. A raised bed, gravel garden, or container with gritty compost works well to keep the roots dry. Once established, it becomes more drought tolerant and only needs occasional watering during prolonged dry spells. Avoid overwatering, especially in winter.
Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring to encourage healthy growth and more flowers. Deadhead faded blooms to prolong the flowering season. Prune lightly after flowering to keep the plant neat and bushy, but avoid hard pruning into old wood, as it does not regenerate well. Apply a layer of horticultural grit or mulch around the base to improve drainage, particularly in heavy soils.
Protect from severe frosts in colder regions by covering with fleece or moving container-grown plants to shelter.
