Alstroemeria Summer Sky ('Tessumsky') (Summer Paradise Series)

Peruvian lily

Product Image
A bright, easy-going perennial that brings a fresh, exotic lift to borders and pots, forming neat clumps of dark green, lance-shaped foliage with a tidy upright habit. Through summer into autumn it produces generous clusters of funnel-shaped white blooms, each one marked with soft yellow at the throat and fine dark brown speckles for extra detail. Reaching around 60-70cm (24-28in), it stays compact enough for containers while still making a strong statement in garden beds and patio displays.

Alstroemeria Summer Sky is especially useful for cutting, with long-lasting stems that perform beautifully in a vase and keep the indoor display going for ages. It suits sunny, sheltered positions with well-drained soil, rewarding you with a steady run of flowers when many other plants begin to slow down, making it a reliable choice for continuous colour and structure in the garden.

Please note that any pots in the photographs are not supplied with the plants (which are sent out in simple nursery alternatives), but we have a wide and wonderful range on our website to choose from.

How to care for Alstroemeria Summer Sky ('Tessumsky') (Summer Paradise Series):

Plant in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in a sunny or lightly shaded position, ideally sheltered from strong winds. If planting into large containers, use a general-purpose potting compost. Water regularly during the growing season, especially in dry spells, but avoid waterlogging.

Newly planted Alstroemerias should be given a very generous 20cm (8in) deep mulch of chipped bark in their first winter to help the plants become established. In subsequent autumns, provide a dry mulch of bracken or bark chippings to help protect the crowns.

After flowering, cut back the faded flower-stems, but make sure you always wear gloves when working with Peruvian lilies, as contact with the foliage may cause skin irritation.
