A robust Sarcococca with larger than average leaves, which are a glossy, rich green and highly scented white flowers in winter that are followed by spherical, glossy, red berries that ripen to black. Tough and tolerant of most conditions, it is especially valuable for shadier areas.
Sarcococca 'Winter Gem' is an easy, low maintenance shrub that prefers shade rather than full sun. When planting, dust some mycorrhizal fungi onto the rootball and a handful of well-rotted garden compost mixed with the soil and firm the conditioned soil around the plant. Water regularly after planting and for the first season. Once established, trim or prune if required after flowering, mulch in Spring.
