Viola 'Vivaldi Beacon'

viola (syn. Viola cornuta)

Product Image
This captivating viola transforms gardens with its watercolour-inspired blooms that blend rich purple petals into soft lavender, dramatically punctuated by a vibrant golden eye.

Viola 'Vivaldi Beacon' emerges as a horticultural virtuoso, delivering impressive flower size and early-season performance that outshines its contemporaries, with a multi-branching, semi-trailing habit that cascades beautifully across hanging baskets, containers, and garden beds.

Bred for resilience, these robust plants stand remarkably strong against frost and early spring challenges, providing reliable colour when most gardens are still awakening from winter's slumber. Whether clustered in contemporary containers or softening the edges of traditional borders, 'Vivaldi Beacon' offers a dynamic display that transforms ordinary spring gardens into extraordinary floral compositions.

How to care for Viola Vivaldi Beacon:

Seedlings should be potted up and grown on in a frost-free environment, such as well-lit windowsill or unheated greenhouse. Pot-grown plants however can be planted out or potted up into compost or well-drained, humus-rich soil that is neither frozen nor prone to waterlogging.

Keep well watered, and feed with a good, high potash fertiliser (such as Tomorite) on a regular basis. Pinching off the spent flowers will encourage more to form. Protect young plants from slug damage using environmentally friendly slug pellets or beer traps.

Sowing instructions:

Late winter, spring and autumn sowings can be done in a cold frame, into trays of good seed compost and gradually hardened off before planting out. Alternatively sow directly into a well-prepared seed bed in late spring to early summer, or in autumn. Gently thin the seedlings out to 15cm apart when they are large enough to handle.
