Neat, compact and full of year-round structure, this dwarf conifer is a brilliant choice for adding evergreen interest without taking over the garden. Its naturally rounded shape is formed by dense clusters of short, dark green needles held on sturdy upright branches, creating a tidy mound that needs very little attention.

Tough enough to cope with dry, exposed and windy positions, Pinus mugo 'Mops' thrives in a sunny spot with well-drained soil, making it ideal for rockeries, gravel gardens, alpine planting or growing in a container. Over time, it develops small dark brown cones that add subtle seasonal character, while its slow-growing habit means it stays beautifully compact for many years.

An easy-care mountain pine, it's a reliable way to bring texture, colour and lasting structure to even the smallest outdoor spaces.

How to care for Pinus mugo Mops:

Plant in a sunny or lightly shaded spot with well-drained soil, as dwarf mountain pine dislikes sitting in wet conditions. It's ideal for sandy, gravelly or loam soils.

Pruning is rarely required, as this slow-growing conifer naturally keeps its compact, rounded shape. Simply remove any dead, damaged or wayward branches, or pinch back the soft new 'candles' in late spring to maintain a dense habit. Avoid cutting into old wood, as it is unlikely to regrow.
