This shrub is semi-evergreen, so it can lose some of its leaves in winter. In colder regions or more exposed gardens, it may lose them all, but then fresh new foliage appears again in spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: moderately fertile, well-drained, slightly acid, sandy soil
  • Rate of growth: average to fast-growing
  • Flowering period: June to July
  • Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection in colder areas)

This new form is noted for its profusion of flower spikes, which top the bushy, semi-evergreen mound of grey-green palmate foliage from early to midsummer. A delightful mound-forming flowering shrub, it flourishes in sunny spots with well-drained soils, so will make a stylish addition to coastal and gravel gardens as well as cottage style planting schemes, or those with a more unstructured feel.

  • Garden care: Deadhead regularly to encourage more flowers to form and after flowering has finished, cut back the plant by around 3/4 to encourage a flush of bushy new growth. Frost hardy, it may not survive cold winters where the temperature drops below -5°C.
  • Pets: TOXIC if eaten; Humans: Harmful if eaten
