This compact, evergreen shrub features small, glossy, dark green leaves and is perfect for topiary or low-maintenance hedging. With its dense growth and fine foliage, it provides an excellent clipped shrub for cool, moist borders that do not become waterlogged or dry out, ideal for formal gardens or intricate shapes. Ilex crenata 'Jenny' thrives in moist but well-drained, neutral to acidic, humus-rich soil and performs well in both sun and partial shade.

Hardy and tolerant of urban environments and thick-walled, well-insulated pots, provided it does not dry out, it requires minimal care once established, needing only occasional clipping to maintain its neat, structured appearance, making it a versatile choice for year-round greenery in the garden.

Please note: We supply these as either ball or pyramid-shaped clipped forms (please ensure you've selected the correct option when purchasing).

How to care for Ilex crenata Jenny (PBR):

Choose a spot with well-drained, fertile soil in full sun to partial shade. Dig a hole slightly wider than the root ball and mix in plenty of organic matter to improve moisture retention and nutrient availability.

If planting as a hedge, space your plants about 20-30cm (8-12in) apart to allow for good air circulation and proper shaping, and to ensure good soil conatct around each plant. Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil around the roots.

Plants grown as free-standing specimens require minimal pruning - remove diseased or misplaced branches in spring. Trim plants grown as formal hedges in late summer.

After pruning, apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted compost or manure around the base of the plant to conserve moisture and suppress weeds.
