Award-winning picking dahlia collection

dahlia collection

Product Image
This flamboyant collection blends warm peach, sunset orange, and sumptuous coral tones, offering a vibrant and elegant feel to late-summer displays. With a mix of striking decorative and gracefully pointed forms, their rich shifts in colour and texture bring depth and drama to borders, containers, or cut flower arrangements.

How to care for Award-winning picking dahlia collection:

Dahlia tubers can be planted outside after frost, or started off in pots under glass in late winter to early spring. Plant them horizontally approximately 12cm (5in) deep, making sure the ‘eyes’ are uppermost. Allow enough room between each tuber so the plants can grow and spread to their full size being over-crowded.

Potted plants should be protected from frost in a well-lit location such as a frost-free greenhouse, cold porch, or cold-frame. Gradually acclimatise (harden-off) in mid-late spring before planting out into borders, protecting from late frosts with cloches or horticultural fleece.

While in growth, provide a high-nitrogen liquid feed each week in June, then a high-potash fertiliser each week from July to September. Stake with canes or brushwood if it becomes necessary. In mild areas, leave them in situ over winter, but protect the crown with a generous layer of dry mulch.

In colder areas, carefully lift and clean the tubers once the first frosts have blackened the foliage and allow them to dry naturally indoors. Then place the dry tubers in a shallow tray, just covered with slightly moist potting compost, sand or vermiculite and store in a frost-free place until planting out again.

What's included:

In each collection you will receive the following dahlia tubers:

  • 1 × Dahlia 'Labyrinth': A decorative-type, peachy dahlia that blends to veined apricot and unfurls like miniature calla lilies from a raspberry clustered centre. Dahlia ‘Labyrinth’ is an eye-catching and flambouyant tuberous perennial with flowers that can reach up to 18cm (7in) across and looks fabulous in a cut flower vase, or as a companion plant with a foil of background foliage such as bronze fennel or purple Cotinus. Grows to 90cm.

  • 1 × Dahlia 'Waltzing Mathilda': An elegant, award-winning miscellaneous dahlia with gently curved, pointed petals in sunset tones of peachy-orange and red. Dahlia 'Waltzing Mathilda' has foliage that is dark and brooding, so creates an impressive backdrop. A late summer treat for pollinating insects, the herbaceous border, or a good-sized pot. Grows to 1m.

  • 1 × Dahlia 'American Dawn': A superb decorative dahlia, in bloom from July until the first frost, Dahlia ‘American Dawn’ emerges from purple-tinted buds, to offer a blend of sumptuous shades of peach and coral. Pop these American beauties in your border or vase alongside Salvia 'Amistad' or 'Pink Amistad' for a stunning, late-summer display. Grows to 90cm.
