Perfect, miniature, purple pansy-like flowers, each with a golden eye, adorn this aubrieta in spring and all but obscure the mat-forming, evergreen foliage beneath.
Best grown in well-drained soil in full sun, Aubrieta gracilis ‘Kitte Blue’ is an ideal plant for dry areas such as chalky slopes and creeping over stone walls but makes a wonderful ground cover for cottage and informal gardens, too.
Please note that the pot in the photograph is not supplied with the plant (which is sent out in a simple nursery alternative), but we have a wide and wonderful range on our website to choose from.
How to care for Aubrieta gracilis Kitte Blue:
For optimal growth, plant Aubretia in well-draining soil with neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Provide at least half a day of sun to maintain its compact form and abundant flowering. Avoid planting in soils prone to waterlogging, especially in winter, and trim lightly after flowering to promote bushiness and potentially a second bloom.
Feed lightly with a general-purpose liquid fertiliser in spring, and during dry spells, ensure the plant receives adequate water to support establishment. In early autumn, prune back 25-50% to maintain a dense, bushy appearance.
