tarragon 'French'

French tarragon or Artemisia dracunculus 'French'

Product Image
Loose clusters of white flowers in late summer and aromatic light to mid-green leaves. Tarragon is perfect for growing in a terracotta container in full sun.

Sprigs of the aromatic foliage can be harvested throughout the growing season, for flavouring chicken and fish dishes and for making tarragon vinegar or in sauces.

How to care for Artemisia dracunculus French:

Plant this aromatic, culinary herb in well-drained soil in a sunny, sheltered spot, as it dislikes wet or heavy conditions. Avoid planting in acidic soils; a slightly alkaline pH is ideal.

Regularly water during the growing season but avoid overwatering. Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every few weeks during active growth.

For potting into larger containers, ensure good drainage by using gritty, loam-based compost and avoid waterlogging.

Move pots to an unheated greenhouse or sheltered porch over winter, as this plant is not fully hardy. Protect outdoor plants with horticultural fleece during frosts. Trim in spring to encourage fresh, vigorous growth.
