Ajuga Midnight Mystery ('Abfg0413a')

bugle

Product Image
Glossy, dark foliage makes this low-growing bugle a real standout for shady borders and ground-cover planting. Spreading stems gradually form a dense carpet of rich bronze-purple leaves, which deepen as the season progresses and can remain almost evergreen through winter.

In mid to late spring, short flower spikes rise above the foliage, carrying unusual rosy-pink blooms that create a lovely contrast against the dark leaves. Ajuga Midnight Mystery is particularly useful for filling gaps beneath shrubs, edging paths or softening the front of a border, where its compact, spreading habit can help suppress weeds while adding long-lasting colour.

How to care for Ajuga Midnight Mystery ('Abfg0413a'):

Plant in moist, well-drained soil in sun or partial shade where it will thrive, though it will also tolerate full shade. It's a spreading ground cover, so it space to form a mat, and avoid planting too close to other low-growing plants.

Keep watered in dry spells until established, then it’s generally low maintenance. Cut back any faded flower spikes and trim back runners if they spread too far.

To rejuvenate and minimise congestion, lift and divide clumps in late autumn or early spring every few years.
