Softer edged and generously proportioned, these make the most of a technique used by skilled pot throwers. The pot is thrown and then the top edge is methodically pinched at regular intervals. It creates a lovely ‘pie crust’ profile that will be unique to each pot.
The wide bottomed shape is nice and stable and stores water well so you won’t need to use a saucer. They come in two sizes that pair well, and we also have a separate ruffle bowl in the same style.
The pots are hand thrown in Turkey from local clay and pre-drilled with a large drainage hole. Over time they will age to an attractive patina as the salts slowly leach to the surface. Each pot is fired to 1080°C to make it as frost resistant as possible. For extra protection we suggest raising it on pot feet and moving it to a sheltered spot in the colder months.
Please note: white specks in the terracotta are lime granules, which occur naturally in raw Turkish clay. Occasionally when pots are fired the clay around them can split out a little, but this won’t compromise the pot’s strength. Lime helps to bind the clay and ultimately makes for a stronger pot. As the pots are hand thrown, the measurements are approximate.
