Natural birch log bird nest box - open

Product Image
This rustic log bird box includes a large cutaway entrance, ideal for open-fronted nesters like the gardener’s friend robin, as well as wrens, pied wagtails and spotted flycatchers.

Made from a sustainable birch log, it replicates natural nesting sites in the wild and looks perfectly at home in the garden. A chunky green-painted roof finishes it off a treat and offers shelter from sun and rain and protection from aerial predators.

Hanging the box:

The log is mounted on a wooden back plate with pre-drilled holes to make life easier. If you’re choosing to hang it on a tree, use an aluminium nail so as not to damage the tree. Because of the open front, choose a site with some cover so birds feel safe from larger birds, squirrels and cats. Robins, in particular, are known to prefer a well-hidden nest site.

Put it up 2-4 metres high, ideally facing north to north east and in a sheltered spot out of strong sun and wind. If you can see it from indoors, all the better. Keep it hygienic by cleaning out the nester annually when you are sure birds have vacated.

Key features:
