- Home care:Rex begonias require special care during the summer months. It's best to keep them in shaded areas and provide ample watering, ensuring proper drainage and maintaining a humid atmosphere around the plants. Avoid wetting the leaves or the crown.
As winter approaches, reduce the frequency of watering. Allow the compost surface to dry out before watering again. These begonias thrive with a minimum winter temperature of 13°C (55°F) across all varieties.
For optimal growth, feed them every two weeks from May to September using a nitrogen fertiliser.
'Green Gecko' brings an exuberant touch to any indoor room or conservatory, preferring light shade, this lizard-like, rex-type Begonia has large, jagged leaves with wine-red margins and silvery flecks that spiral inwards towards dark maroon centres. Occasional sprays of pink flowers add a charming touch to this stunning display.
