Arachnoides aristata 'Variegata'
east Indian holly fern
- Position: partial shade to full shade
- Soil: moist, but well-drained humus-rich soil
- Rate of growth: fast
- Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection)
A fantastic grass-green coloured evergreen fern, with a yellow-gold variegated ‘ribbon’ running through each of the fronds. Plant them as a bold group, or use them as a contrast to other low-growing foliage plants such as Heucheras and other ferns. - Garden care: Incorporate lots of well-rotted leaf mould or garden compost into the planting hole. Overwinter potted plants in an unheated greenhouse, or provide a deep, insulating mulch around their base to protect them from the cold. In late winter, cut back the old and tatty-looking fronds to allow new growth to emerge.
